How I'm Going to Expand This Into a Long Term Passion

Putting Plants in Balmoral Hall School

As a part of my passion project, I decided to take care of and redesign a plant box at Balmoral Hall. I noticed a plant box in the school was filled with dead plants, which made the space feel neglected and uninviting. Since I’ve always enjoyed being around plants and understand how much they can improve mood and environment, I wanted to bring life back into that space.

I planted a variety of plants in the box (which I will finalize once I get them). My goal was to choose plants that will thrive in the indoor conditions, and also can be beneficial to mental and physical health. I plan to return regularly to water, care for, and maintain the plants so they stay healthy over time.

Each year, I plan to come back, replant when needed, and continue caring for the plant box. By doing this, I aim to create a lasting positive impact on the school's environment.

Planting at The Movement Centre Of Manitoba.

Another important part of my passion project is donating plants to the Movement Centre of Manitoba. The centre specializes in conductive Education and Occupational Therapy for children and adults living with neuromotor disabilities. The work they do there creates a positive, encouraging environment where patients can grow and reach their goals.

As part of my project, I plan to donate plants and also visit the centre to plant them alongside the patients. This experience is meaningful to me because it goes beyond just giving something, it’s about connecting with people and doing something together that feels calming and enjoyable. Being around plants has been shown to support mental well-being, reduce stress, and create a more welcoming environment, which is especially important in a rehabilitation setting.

By planting with the patients, I hope to create a hands-on experience that feels positive, calming, and enjoyable. This part of my project allows me to extend the impact beyond my school and contribute to a community space where positivity and healing are so important.

Why plants matter for everyone.

Plants are important for everyone. They give us the oxygen we breathe. They provide most of our food. They help keep the environment in balance by cleaning the air and supporting wildlife. They also boost human health and well-being. This makes them essential for life on Earth.
